The Rt. Rev. David M. Reed, D.D.
Bishop of West Texas
Speaking on the theme
The Church has reaffirmed our self-understanding as outlined in the
Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral—grounded in the Scriptures, Creeds,
Sacraments, and Historic Episcopate. (BCP pp. 876-878!)  With that
identity, how then shall we live as Church (the Call of God) in the world
(Cries of his People)?  As Phillips Brooks once wrote, the preacher (and
the Church) are always facing two direc¬tions—toward God and toward
man.  Sounds like the life all Christians are called to!
Bishop David Reed was born in Brownsville and took his Bachelor in Journalism from the University
of Texas and MDiv from the Seminary of the Southwest.  Ordained priest by Bishop Bailey in 1984,
he served as rector of St. Francis, Victoria, 1987-94 and St. Alban’s, Harlingen, 1994-2006.  He was
elected Bishop Suffragan of West Texas in 2006 and Bishop Coadjutor in 2014. He became Diocesan
Bishop in 2017.  He and his wife Patti have two children.
